What We’ve Done So Far

In Marina’s first year as Alderwoman, she’s delivered on her promises and helped move our city forward. Her focus is on health and safety, racial equality and justice, expanding democracy and environmental sustainability.

A Healthier Milwaukee

As Chairwoman of the City’s Public Safety and Health Committee she helped lead the city’s pandemic response by authoring the unanimously adopted masking order which helped protect our city from Covid 19 spread

In November of 2020, Marina was named a “Pandemic Power Broker” by the Milwaukee Business Journal. What’s a power broker? These are the people who others turn to when they need to get something done, whether it's a business deal, community project or help raising money for a great cause.

A More Fair Milwaukee

Marina introduced legislation to decriminalize and work towards legalizing marijuana in Milwaukee.

A More Democratic Milwaukee

Marina authored the SafeVote program to expand democracy to all and build our vote from home election infrastructure which increased voter participation

A More Clean and Safe Milwaukee for All

In an effort to support local businesses during the pandemic and reduce dependence on cars, Marina authored the successful Active Streets program. Many businesses have expanded their operations into the streets adding capacity and demonstrating that our streets are for all: pedestrians, diners, cyclists and more.

As a mother of young children, Marina focused on our city’s lead problems immediately. She believes that access to safe, clean drinking water that is lead-free is a basic right that all Milwaukeeans should be able to count on. She authored a successful budget amendment to expedite the removal of lead from homes in our city by assisting homeowners with the cost to remediate.

She wants our city to address climate change and act now for our future generations. She has introduced legislation to prioritize federal funds focused on our environmental sustainability such as increasing tree canopies, reducing energy burden and building affordable, energy-efficient homes.

Townhalls

Throughout Marina’s seventeen years of elected service she has prioritized meeting with her constituents face-to-face as often as possible and has hosted nearly one hundred townhall meetings to date. As Alderwoman she has continued this commitment and in her first year in her new office, she held many virtual and in-person listening sessions to hear directly from the people who elected her.

Business Visits

Once the pandemic hit, Marina wanted to do everything possible to support local businesses in her district. She created “Around the 14th” and regularly visits small businesses in her district to meet with owners, discuss their concerns and help promote their efforts. From popsicles to binding books, Marina has visited over 20 local businesses!
